Homework Can Be FUN

Class assignment: find, identify and describe 50 different California Wildflowers.
Two months to complete project.
Three weeks left. Areas covered so far include; central valley, our foothills, foot hills further south, coastal area, canyons, American River banks, our yard and pasture and road sides.

Tristan, Cort, Carson and I spent four hours in the forest 30 minutes from here "working" on homework.

We found TEN new varieties on this outting AND we had a 'blast'.

No dust on these muddy but happy trails!

He was protecting us from evil forest creatures with hand guns, grenades, bazookas, laser weapons, etc... once or twice he killed the big black bear following us....

gentle soul that he is, everything is a potential weapon, and he has a fabulous sense of adventure, humor, and imagination.

What a beautiful assignment! Thanks for "taking" me along. That final pic of the magenta flower (Sierra Shooting Star) is my FAVORITE wildflower. We used to have a patch but after the pool went in I haven't found a single bud. : ( I keep looking every year. Maybe this year the chickens will have turned over a seed or two.

Thanks for the stroll in pictures (and the excellent protection from Tristan while we wander.)

I bet the other kids don't get half the flowers Tristan gets. They don't have a Grandma that will go out for hours and help. It must run in the family. I hope he can find all 50. Is there a book of Ca. flowers, to tell you where you can find their locations. then you can go seek them out. I should come out to lend an extera set of eyes to find them little buggers.
